CRIMINALISE WAR FUND

The Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) launched its Criminalise War Fund (CWF), an initiative to help build communities in countries devastated by war. The event was officiated by PGPF President, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. With the setting up of the CWF, individuals and organisations are able and encouraged to make contributions that will be used by non-profit organisations to aid and assist war-torn nations. Also present during the launch was PGPF’s Honorary Advisor Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali; PGPF Chairman, Tan Sri Norian Mai, the PGPF Board of Trustees; as well as representatives of the Charitable Association for Palestinian Relief, one of the beneficiaries of the CWF. Tan Sri Norian Mai said, “This initiative by PGPF is timely and critically necessary as there is a growing pool of individuals and organisations both locally and internationally wanting to help fund social needs programmes targeted at those affected by wars. The setting up of this fund is also a call to everyone to support global peace-building efforts and the criminalisation of war.” “With the launching of CWF, we hope to be able to reach other areas where we have not reached out to before. We hope to increase our efforts in alleviating the humanitarian crises in the Middle East, particularly within Syria. The CWF is yet another initiative to PGPF’s efforts to assist war-ravaged nations.” He added, “PGPF has worked with numerous foundations and organisations in Somalia, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Gaza and the West Bank. To date, we have contributed RM2.3 million towards efforts in rebuilding Palestine.” Commenting on how and where the funds will be channeled, Tan Sri Norian said the PGPF Board has a set of established criteria for projects to be funded by the CWF. Per the criteria, PGPF will identify projects to fund by working with charitable organisations in those affected areas. Contributions made to PGPF and the WDF are tax exempted and projects that are being funded are reported on the PGPF website and Facebook page.
